Spray snow looks lovely on windows, mirrors and tree branches while the festive mood lasts. But once Christmas and New Year are over it all has to come off, and that is when you find the snow has dried hard, smears with water and leaves white streaks.
Scraping glass with a blade or rubbing with an abrasive is a bad idea, as it is easy to scratch the surface. It is much simpler to soften the coating so it wipes away with an ordinary cloth. Here is how.
What you will need
Important: The aerosol is flammable: switch off and unplug fairy lights, put out candles and ventilate the room before you start. Test the product on a hidden spot of an artificial tree or painted frame first.
Step 1
Spray the snow on the glass
Cover the window sill with plastic or newspaper. Spray WD-40 Multi-Use evenly over the spray snow designs on the window or mirror. The coating should be well wetted but not running.
Wait a few minutes: the product gets under the snow layer and loosens its grip on the glass.

Step 2
Wipe the snow off with a dry cloth
Wipe the glass from top to bottom with a dry cloth. Most of the snow will come away easily, without effort or scraping. Turn the cloth to a clean side often so you do not spread the residue around.
Step 3
Repeat and polish the glass
If white traces remain in the corners or along the frame, treat those areas again. Once all the snow is gone, clean the glass with ordinary window cleaner and dry it to remove any oily film and smears.
Step 4
Treat the artificial tree branches
Take the lights and decorations off the tree and move it to a balcony or a well-ventilated room. Test the product on one lower branch. If the needles are unaffected, spray the snowy branches with WD-40 Smart Straw, holding the can at a distance, and wait a few minutes.
Step 5
Clean the branches and store the tree
Wipe the branches with a dry cloth in the direction of the needles. If some snow remains, repeat the treatment. Before packing the tree away, leave it for a few hours so the product evaporates completely.
Tip: Next year, clean the glass and dry it thoroughly before applying spray snow: the designs go on more evenly on a clean surface and come off much more easily after the holidays.
What next
The same can of WD-40 Multi-Use helps remove leftover tape and sticker adhesive from glass and smooth surfaces. Store it with your Christmas decorations so next January's tidy-up takes only minutes.
These uses come from the experience of WD-40 users in many countries. Always follow the instructions and warnings on the product label.
