Pumpkins, cobwebs, bats on the windows and stickers on the door set the festive mood. Then comes the less fun part: taking it all down, which often leaves sticky traces of tape, double-sided pads and stickers.
The good news is that you can clear it quickly and without scrapers that scratch glass. The key is to work methodically and give the product a few seconds to soften the glue.
What you will need
Important: Test WD-40 on a hidden spot before treating painted walls, wallpaper or wooden doors. Do not spray near candles, live fairy lights or open flames.
Step 1
Find every decorated spot
Think back to where you decorated: windows, front door, walls, stairs, balcony, fence and garden. Collect the bulky items and unplug any lights first. That way you will not still be pulling down cobwebs when the Christmas decorations go up.
Step 2
Apply WD-40 to stickers and tape
Shake the WD-40 Smart Straw, flip up the straw and precisely treat window stickers, strips of tape and double-sided pads. The narrow jet keeps the frame and seals clean. Larger areas of glue are easier with the wide spray.

Step 3
Wait a few seconds
Let the formula get under the sticker and soften the glue. Fresh decorations need only a few seconds, while stickers that hung on a sunny window are better left for a minute or two.
Step 4
Take the decorations down
Lift the edge of the sticker or tape and pull slowly. If sticky marks remain, apply a little more WD-40 Multi-Use, wait a few seconds and wipe with a cloth.
Step 5
Wipe the surface clean
Go over the decorated areas with a clean dry cloth. Then wash the glass with window cleaner to avoid smears, and wipe painted surfaces with a damp cloth and a drop of detergent.
Tip: Next year, fix decorations with masking tape or removable hooks to make removal even easier. If thread cobwebs catch on shrubs or a fence, take them down in dry weather: wet threads snap and tangle.
What next
The same method will take Christmas window stickers off in a few weeks. Meanwhile, use WD-40 Multi-Use to get the house ready for winter by protecting door locks and hinges from moisture.
These uses come from the experience of WD-40 users in many countries. Always follow the instructions and warnings on the product label.
